New Season Starts Here...

The first wave of fixtures for the new North Berks League season have been released.

Long Wittenham first team will return to competitive action with three consecutive away fixtures. phil Lynchs side will be hoping to go one better this season and secure a promotion spot to Division One and theyll be hoping for a good start as they travel to Saxton Rovers Reserves for their first game. Although it means little as we enter a new season Wittenham did manage to beat Saxton 4-2 and 5-0 last season. The first team will follow this up with trips to East Hendred and Botley United. With Botley also being in the promotion mix last season this promises to be another intriguing match in the first month of the season. First team fixtures can be found here.

The Reserves start the new campaign in a new division and they will be looking to continue their good form of last season when they also travel away to Harwell Village Reserves in their opener. Harwell are also new comers to the division having exerienced relegation from Division Three last year. This will prove a tough test but should give an early indication of the challenge ahead. The Reserves have a busy start to their season as they face another new team in Berinsfield on the following Tuesday before another double header in the second week with East Hendred Reserves and Radley visiting Bodkins. Goals Galore

Long Wittenham's first team followed up last Tuesday nights 5-5 draw with Steventon with another 10 goal thriller this Saturday!
Importantly all ten goals were scored by Wittenham this time as they look to cement third place in Division Two. Steve Molloy added another four goals to his tally for the season while Adam Baily chipped in with a hat-trick of his own, technically his fifth of the season. A brace from Andy Marriott and a Jow Harvey strike completed the comfortable Wittenham win.

Wittenham start a tough looking final week of the season on Saturday as they host Division Two champions Harwell International. The two sides have met three times already this season with home advantage proving decisive every time, Wittenham running out 2-0 victors when they met at Bodkins in the North Berks Cup.

Promotion Party Starts Early

Division Five Trophy Long Wittenham Reserves invited Bampton Town Reserves to their promotion party on Saturday and finished the season with their heaviest defeat of the season.
Wittenham started slowly but took the lead after 10 minutes following some good approach play down the left by Andie Samson, Danny Osbourne and Jonathan Hillier before Adi Evans completed the move, firing past the Bampton keeper from the edge of the box. That was to be as good as it got for Wittenham as they lost Osbourne to injury soon after before Bampton struck 6 un-answered goals as Wittenham started their promotion party early.
Keeper Ashley Orme found himself exposed on too many occasions and was beaten in one on one situations 3 times while Bampton also struck another 3 near identical goals as they took revenge for Wittenhams 5-0 victory 3 weeks earlier. Evans came closest to reducing the arrears, firstly denied by the Bampton keeper and then striking wide when clear through and Hillier hit the bar with a header after Bampton failed to clear a corner.
The defeat took the gloss off a superb season for Wittenham but this was soon forgotten once the Division Five trophy was presented to captain Ian Burton at the final whistle.

The first team travelled to Childrey in must win game if they were to stand any realistic chance of a top 2 finish. Unfortunately Childrey continued their recent run of victories in the fixture and ran out 4-1 winners. Defeat leaves Wittenham's first team in third place in Division Two with 5 games remaining.It is now essential that they get back to winning ways if they are to cement this position with Botley close behind. Next up is 8th placed Steventon on tuesday night, Wittenham won the earlier fixture 3-1 and will be hoping for more of the same.

The Sunday side finished their season with another victory, this time away at Abingdon Exiles. Goals from Phil Lynch, Liam Woods, Chris Freeman, Olly Saunders and Steve Molloy contributed to Wittenhams 6-1 victory, their 5th win of the season. The Exiles goal provided a significant landmark as it was the 100th league goal conceaded by Wittenham this season.
